Young, brilliant people when faced with career-affecting choices, tend to be conservative. Not Sonesh. Between MIT and Berkeley, he chose the latter not after a detailed analysis but because, “it felt right”. Ever since, he continues to make heart-based choices that he executes to perfection with his head.
Thank You
It takes a great deal of maturity to not project your natural gifts. Sonesh is six feet, handsome, is completing a Ph.D. in computer science and has one of the sweetest smiles. But he prefers to engage with others through service. He never seeks to impress anyone, never carries a personal agenda. No wonder, his doctoral projects don’t take him to Sand Hill Road but to villages in India and Africa. As part of TIER (Technology and Infrastructure for Emerging Regions), Sonesh deploys long distance Wi-Fi networks in rural areas to facilitate Telemedicine services and more. His first “client” is Aravind Eye Hospital where he and his colleagues have successfully enabled video conferencing between patients and doctors in rural areas that don’t even have proper electricity. Besides tech work, he volunteers for non-profits like KarmaKitchen where he cleans dishes to pixel perfection for six continuous hours. It is a privilege to know people like Sonesh and we would liek to explore using similar technology in the villages we’ll be living and working in. Thank You Sonesh.
