Lemon it Up!

We had this not so unusual problem of hundreds of thousands of ants marching through the house, the front porch and side yard. They were clearly up to something big (a siege?) and we left them on their own for a couple of days. Their business was still unfinished. Nisha got tired of being up against an ant hill every day came up with a solution.

She cut a few small pieces of fresh lemon and placed them at critical junctions.  In under 2 minutes, all but few had retreated to their bastion.

Later I googled and found that lemon juice is an ant repellent. But extracting the juice doesn't seem to be necessary. And the lemon pieces are re-usable just in case the ants decide to re-route.

This has worked 5/5 times for us on small black ants and small red ants. Wait till they evolve!

More Ant Ideas!

As a Buddhist i try very hard not to kill anything or anyone ever. I decided that when the annual Winter hungry ants were washed out in the rain and entered my kitchen, to give them what they were looking for - food. I place a lid or dish with a lump of honey or syrup next to where they enter the kitchen. They send out the message through their incredibly sophisticated communication system and tell all the other ants where the food is. After one day when they have all gotten the message you place the lid or dish outside. You have to tolerate quite a few ants for ONE DAY only.If you live with people who think the size of a living being determines their worth- (as in people who would never kill a poodle or a cat but don't think twice about killing a worm or a spider) they will probably think you have gone mad! At first the ants are confused but within an hour they have usually sent out the message again that the food has moved outside and they all leave the kitchen!I then just keep refilling the dish outside and eventualy they all go home- without ever coming back into the house! This method has worked for me for many years! It saves the lives of other sentient beings and makes them really happy at the same time!

Just saw the creative common license

I missed that out earlier. Sorry about that A.Mahadevan Chennai 9840277566
